ConnectWell Community Health is seeking a Mental Health Peer Support Worker 0.6 FTE (21-hours per week) ongoing. The Peer Support Worker is part of the Mental Health Team in Lanark and works in collaboration with staff, participants, volunteers, and partner agencies.  This position provides comprehensive benefit coverage, including HOOPP.

Position Summary:  The Mental Health Peer Support Worker, works in a non-clinical role, and provides emotional and social support to others who share a common experience.

The successful candidate has a deep understanding of Peer Support Canada Core Competencies and Core values of Peer Support and can work effectively in the role while maintaining healthy professional boundaries.   The Mental Health Peer Support Worker is trained to provide mental health peer support in a welcoming, supportive, non-judgmental environment, primarily through group work and uses empowerment and recovery orientated approaches when working with client peers, to help lessen stigma, raise self esteem, and instill hope.

The Mental Health Peer Support Worker has their own lived or living experience with mental health issue/s and/or Substance use/addiction issues and is in a place of recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Mental Health Peer Support core competencies training or certification
  • Personal experience with mental health issue/s and/or substance use/addiction issues
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an official peer support role
  • Post Secondary Education
  • Knowledge/familiarity of mental health, addiction, and social service systems
  • Demonstrated strength in listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstrated strength in planning, developing, and facilitating groups and working 1:1 with individuals and within a team environment.
  • Understanding of the impact of the social determinants of health on individuals and communities
  • Excellent organizational , interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Reporting Relationship: The successful candidate will report to The Director of Mental Health Services and Connections
