Family Foundational Services

Foundational Family Services are available to families/caregivers of children and youth who are registered with the Ontario Autism Program.

We offer a  variety of education opportunities on a wide range of topics for parents/caregivers. Foundational Family Services will provide you with tools and strategies to support your child or youth in the areas of daily routines, toilet training, communication, behaviour and returning to the school environment. Currently, our workshop sessions are taking place virtually using Zoom (PHIPA – Personal Health Information Protection Act approved). Following the workshops, you may have the option to schedule a 1:1 consultation session to discuss your specific goals with one of our experienced and well trained autism services team.

Virtual Consultation Clinics- Apr 26th, May 31st, Jun 28th

Families can contact Chelsea at 613-257-7121 ext. 3200 (or click on the link below to register) to book a virtual consultation (up to 1 hour in length) between 9am-3pm with one of our team of Professionals (may include ABA specialist, behavior specialist, SLP, OT). This is an individual, 1:1 zoom appointment that will allow you to discuss a specific skill or area of priority for your child and or family. Please have this identified when booking your appointment.

Introducing Virtual *Psychological Consultation Clinic* – April 29th

Families can contact Chelsea at 613-257-7121 ext. 3200 (or click on the link below to register) to book a consultation with the Psychologist (up to 1 hour) between 9am – 3pm. This individual 1:1 Zoom appointment will allow you to discuss your questions regarding:

  • Your child’s behavioural needs
  • Psychological testing of children with special needs
  • Your child’s diagnosis (e.g. Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay).

Please have your questions/interests identified when booking your appointment. Please note that neither Psychological assessment nor a diagnosis will be provided during this brief consultation.

Information to help parents talk to your child about their sibling with Autism. Focus on dealing with positive and negative emotions that may be displayed & providing strategies to enhance understanding and strengthen sibling relationships

Functions of Behaviour

Do you find yourself questioning WHY your child behaves the way they do? This workshop will help parents to understand the function of their child’s interfering behaviour and learn about strategies to help that correspond with that function. *It is recommended that participants also register for our ABCs Workshop

Essential safety in the home and community

Learn how to identify possible risks and dangers that may exist in the home and the community for your child/youth with Autism. Explore various strategies and tools that you can use to promote safety whether in your household or out & about.

Introduction to Respite Services

Families of children with special needs often require a number of services to enhance the health, well-being and life quality of their child and family. Respite care is one such service. LCP Family relief program will inform you of the different types of respite services, discuss how to go about hiring your own respite worker, and steps to apply for funding

Disclosing Your Child’s Diagnosis

In this workshop, we will discuss how to start the conversation with your child about their Diagnosis. We will aim to offer dialogue to explain and give your child a better understanding so that they can ask for what they need. We will provide resources to assist & guide you.

Transition to Adulthood

This workshop is designed to help you develop a plan to address the steps that may lay ahead as your child transitions to an adult. By attending this workshop, you will become aware of changes in funding and services as well as common adult transitions that can require further attention as you move through them.

Teach & Talk

This is a live, interactive workshop by a behavioural and a speech-language professional that will explore ways to use visuals to support your child’s transitions, participate in routines, understanding/expression of language, making choices and managing behaviour.

The Hidden Curriculum

Hidden Curriculum is a set of rules or social guidelines that are not directly taught but are assumed to be known (slang, metaphors, and body language). This workshop will help to provide strategies to you for teaching these hidden social skills to your child/youth.
